Avalokiteshvara with Mani ~ Cloth Banner with with Fabric Trim
This 11" X 38" colorful cotton banner with 2" double folded border depicts Avalokiteshvara - the supreme embodiment of compassion and the personification of the bodhisattva ideal. He is the national diety of Tibet. The Dalai Lama and Gyalwa Karmapa are said to be his incarnations. He is shown here in his standing two-armed manifestation. In his right hand is a crystal rosary symbolizing his unceasing compassion. His left hand holds a curving lotus stem with flowers in bud, fully open and already closed symbolizing his manifesting the compassion of the Buddhas of the past, present and future. The first buddhist mantra, and still the most widespread among all Tibetans is the six-syllable mantra of Avalokiteshvara: OM MANI PADME HUM. It is printed here six times in Tibetan script.
