Kalachakra Mandala

Mandalas are ancient diagrams employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts; as a spiritual teaching tool; for establishing a sacred space; and as an aid to meditation. Tibetan Buddhist mandalas are symbolic maps of mind, leading the practitioner from the small everyday mundane mind to the omniscient primordial cosmic power at the center of enlightened mind.  Various mandalas are connected with different aspects of enlightened mind such as compassion, wisdom or power.

This particular mandala is for the practice of the Kalachakra Tantra. It is a 2 dimensional model of a multidimensional mind-space.  The Kalachakra tradition revolves around the concept of time and cycles, from the cycles of the planets, to the cycles of human breathing, it teaches the practice of working with the most subtle energies within one's body on the path to enlightenment.  Since Kalachakra is time and everything is under the influence of time, Kalachakra is concerned with the omniscient aspect of enlightened mind.
