Green Tara 34-08
Tara is the manifestation of the compassion of all the Buddhas of the three times. She is also the goddess who carries out and accomplishes the enlightened activities of the Buddhas.
It is said of Green Tara that not only will she give to beings whatever they may need, she is also able to allay the major fears of beings. The eight common fears of including the fear of robbers , fear of drowning, of snakes, of poison, of imprisonment, evil spirits, fire and wild animals; as well as the inner fears. It is believed that whatever fears beings have, when they recite the twenty-one praises to Tara, or even merely recite her ten-syllable mantra, OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SVAHA, their fears will be pacified, and their needs will be fulfilled. This thangka, portrayting Green Tara, is painted in a modern style. Above her head sit's Amitabha, Buddha of boundless light. The figures, halos, lotuses and offerings, painted in pastel shades and gold, contrast against the background landscape which is painted in shades of grey. The face, body, lotuses and elements of the landscape are painted with 3-dimensional shading; something we're seeing more and more of in modern thangkas.
We chose a somewhat traditional brocade surrounding the painting with the exception of an emerald green and gold brocade instead of the traditional dark blue at the outside perimeter.
